His Holiness the Sakya Trizin

His
Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin was born in Tibet in 1945.
He is the supreme head of the Sakya school, one of the four
main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. His Holiness belongs to
the ancient and distinguished family of Khon, whose history
dates back to the early days of Tibet, even before the arrival
of Buddhism.
After
escaping from Tibet, His Holiness set up residence in exile
in Rajpur, India, where he re-restablished the Sakya monasteries
and colleges and oversees an estimated 10,000 monks and nuns
worldwide, not including an uncounted number still in Tibet.
His
Holiness works tirelessly to help Tibetans and preserve Tibetan
culture. He travels extensively around the world giving Buddhist
teachings, including a four-month tour through Australia and
the United States in 2003, where he was accompanied by his
son, His Eminence Ratna Vajra Rinpoche and his wife, Her Eminence
Dagmo Kushok.
