Construction News

In February 2002, the children of Pema Ts'al moved to their new home in Pokhara, Nepal, when the first phase of construction was completed on their permanent home and school. Pema Ts'al was able to purchase 2.5 acres of land worth USD $15,000 through a generous donation from the Tom & Margot Pritzker and Gigi & Michael Pucker families. With financial support received from the Vikramasila Foundation, the Institute was then able to build the First Phase which consists of a prayer hall, five classrooms, an art room, two guest rooms and one special room for visiting high lamas.

Simultaneously, 14 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms were kindly financed by the Sumadara Temple of Kobey and the people of Japan through the efforts of Mr Dev Man Hirachan. Mr Hirachan is a well-known Nepali social worker who resides in Osaka, Japan. Pema Ts'al was able to purchase a car through a donation from Dr. Thomas G Roberts. Dr. Roberts, an established dentist in Seattle, Washington, USA, has also donated his time and skills through hosting free dental clinics for the students of Pema Ts'al and the residents of the local village. We would like to convey our sincerest gratitude to all our kind contributors and congratulate them for the project's great success.

In May 2003, a commitment from a generous donor enabled construction of the Second Phase to begin. The Second Phase, estimated at USD $25,000, consists of the kitchen, dining hall, storeroom, living quarters for the cook and house mother, additional bathrooms, and the reception area. Because of the kind generosity of so many supporters, 20 new children joined Pema Ts'al Nepal in January 2004.

Fundraising is currently centered around raising money to begin the Third Phase. This phase is estimated at USD $20,000 and will consist of 14 additional bedrooms and will allow the Institute to accommodate 30 more students. The Fourth Phase, estimated at USD $35,000, consists of 22 more bedrooms and will accommodate an additional 30-40 students. The Fifth and final phase will be construction of the monastery and surrounding buildings and will involve the purchase of additional land.
